CAIRNS – PORT DOUGLAS – MOSSMAN – CAIRNS
2 days, 1 night
If you want to truly understand the history of a destination, you need to turn to the people who’ve been recording it for thousands of years – the traditional owners of Tropical North Queensland. This itinerary covers 50,000 years of ground in just two days, where you’ll learn about ritual, remedy and the relationship between humans and the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest. You’ll hear it from the Kuku Yalanji (rainforest) people whose borders extend from Port Douglas in the south to Cooktown in the north.
Thursday 17th of October
AM: Arrive into Cairns
Arrive into Cairns late morning, where your adventure begins from the minute you’re picked up from the airport.
Noon: Transfer to Port Douglas
One helluva scenic drive separates Cairns and your first destination, Port Douglas. Today we’ll be driving most of the length of the Great Barrier Reef Drive, hugging the ocean on one side and rainforest to the other.
PM: Get cultured
On arrival you’ll be met by Juan Walker from Walkabout Cultural Adventures, for a full-day tour, exploring the connection between reef and rainforest by the people who know it best. The cultural tour will focus on the coastal habitats and the Daintree River area, covering everything from bush tucker to medicines and Aboriginal hunting practices.
PM: Dinner in the forest
This afternoon, you’ll arrive at your Port Douglas hotel to check in and freshen up before dinner. Your dinner destination is as memorable as the tour today – Flames of the Forest. You’ll dine at tables set up on the forest floor, under a canopy of festoon lights and ancient rainforest trees. This is Australia’s only rainforest dining experience after all.
Overnight: Paradise Links Resort Port Douglas
