CAIRNS – PORT DOUGLAS – CAPE TRIBULATION – CAIRNS
3 days, 2 nights
If you’re wanting to see the World’s oldest living rainforest from all angles this famil is for you. We start in Port Douglas for a Great Barrier Reef tour before making our way to the Daintree Rainforest where we’ll explore this World Heritage-listed wonder via its river systems with a Daintree River Cruise. We’ll then walk through it at the Daintree Discovery Centre, where elevated platforms will take us eye-to-eye with some of its famous ferns. If you thought the 23- metre high Canopy Tower was immersive, strap yourself in (no seriously, you will need to) for what’s next, Jungle Surfing, at the very place the rainforest meets the reef, Cape Tribulation.
Sunday 20th of October
AM: Swap Cairns for Port Douglas
We’ll start our morning early in Cairns, transferring along the Great Barrier Reef drive to Port Douglas. This is where our Great Barrier Reef adventure begins. Onboard Sailaway, we’ll visit the Low Isles. When you’re not snorkelling and spotting colourful coral and tropical fish, you can explore the Coral Cay and set up for the day on its white sandy beaches.
PM: Check into a resort playground
Back on the mainland in time for sundowners, we’ll enjoy dinner tonight in Port Douglas before checking into your accommodation.
Overnight: Mantra Portsea, Port Douglas
Monday 21st of October
AM: Glide through the rainforest
While most people first discover the rainforest by foot, we’ll be discovering it by boat, on board Daintree River Cruise. We’ll spend a couple of hours on its crocodile-infested waters with one goal, to spot a croc.
From there, we’ll transfer to the Daintree Discovery Centre to discover the history of the rainforest and why its famous foliage hides the highest variety of plants and animals found in any rainforest on the planet. You’ll learn not only the ecological significance but the Indigenous significance as well during your guided group tour to the top of the 23m high viewing platform.
Check-in: Heritage Lodge
Our rainforest experience doesn’t stop there, tonight we’ll be sleeping amongst it at the Heritage Lodge. Your balcony will transform into your personal viewing platform to spot cassowaries, butterflies and birds who frequent Heritage Lodge’s lush gardens.
PM: Fly through the rainforest
If you’ve ever fancied yourself a Tarzan or Jane, now’s the time to bring your best impersonation (and yes, chest beating is encouraged), we’re going Jungle Surfing. This zipline experience takes you 16m above the forest floor, as you fly through the rainforest attached to a wire.
Overnight: Heritage Lodge in the Daintree
Tuesday 22nd of October
AM: Wake up in the rainforest
Wake up to the sound of birds at Heritage Lodge before transferring two and a half hours back to Cairns for your onward flight home, after midday.
