2 days, 1 night
They don’t call Tropical North Queensland the capital of adventure for no reason. Test the claim for yourself on this two-day famil which packs all things heart-pumping, white knuckle-inducing and adrenaline-raising in Cairns’ surrounds. On the action-menu you’ll find mountain biking, hiking and whitewater rafting – like a set-menu of activities that progressively get the heart pumping that little bit more. Hold onto the seat of your pants, this famil is not for the faint-hearted.
Sunday 20th of October
AM: Two wheels, two feet, two thumbs up
Today we won’t just be relying on two feet, but two wheels, as we see why Cairns’ surrounds make for such world-class mountain biking. The scenery is on point for this half day Bike N Hike Adventure Tours’ mountain biking adventure through Smithfield Mountain Bike Trail Park. Believe it or not, this park packs over 60km of trails into its leafy surrounds. Whether you’re an experienced downhill rider or it’s your first time in the saddle – there’s a trail for all fitness levels.
Lunch: Eat and check-in
We’ll enjoy lunch at Dundees at the Cairns Aquarium before checking into our accommodation this evening. But this isn’t where the action stops.
PM: White Water Rafting with Cairns Adventure Group
Get ready to get wet this afternoon as we tackle grade two and three rapids through Barron Gorge National Park. Expect to cop a face full of water as you paddle downstream. This three-hour tour will have you back at the hotel in time to hop into dry clothes and freshen up before dinner.
PM: Dinner at Ochre
Dinner tonight will be served at waterfront restaurant institute, Ochre, which specialises in native flavours. On the menu you’ll find everything from smoked kangaroo to emu wontons and smoked crocodile to give you a taste of local protein flavours.
Overnight: Riley, A Crystalbrook Collection Resort
Monday 21st of October
AM: Early bird gets the worm
There’ll be no sleep-in today with hot air ballooning first up. The reward for waking up before the birds? Epic views over the Atherton Tablelands and on a clear day, right out to the reef.
Back on solid ground, there’s time for brunch at your accommodation, before checking out and departing Cairns on your connecting flight (if required).
