CAIRNS – ATHERTON TABLELANDS – CAIRNS
2 days, 1 night
Are you the sort of person who books holidays based on their cuisine? You’ll be happy to know the Tropical North Queensland table (or should that read Atherton Tablelands) is set. On this famil we’ll join Brett’s Outback Tasting Adventures to discover a true paddock-to-plate philosophy, visiting farmers who grow diverse crops from coffee, sugar cane, mangoes, and citrus to boutique distilled spirits. Bring your appetite. Leave fussy eating at home.
Sunday 20th of October
AM: First stop, destination delicious
First things first, we’re going to need to swap the Cairns CBD for the rolling green hills of the Atherton Tablelands. There’s an hour and a half of scenic windy roads to work up your appetite for a full day of eating and drinking across the region. Your host, Brett’s Outback Tasting Adventures, will be your designated driver and food coma navigator.
Day: Taste the region
Since we’ll be working our way progressively through the region, it makes sense to discover it by food groups. We’ll start with fruits of the Wet Tropics forest with visits to Sunset Ridge Farm and Rainforest Bounty. From there we move onto proteins and taste crocodile, red claw, and kangaroo at Platypus Park, where we can confirm platypus are viewed only, not on the menu. A cheese board for dessert from Gallo Dairy won’t be the only thing to get you in the spirit. We’ll visit the award-winning Mount Uncle Distillery too.
Overnight: Rose Gums Wilderness Retreat and Canopy Tree Houses
Monday 21st of October
AM: Breakfast in bed, before Cairns
Why go out when you can stay in? Breakfast will be served on site at your accommodation, before we transfer as a group back to Cairns this morning.
