This inspirational famil program – led by the very passionate Melinda Bingley of MAB Adventures – will see you follow in the footsteps of Matthew Flinders and retrace his discovery tour of the Pumicestone Passage and then into the distinctive Glass House Mountains, named by Captain James Cook after the glass furnaces of Yorkshire and then first explored by a European in 1799, when Captain Matthew Flinders called into the region during his circumnavigation of the continent.
You will explore this tranquil waterway by kayak, and learn about the history and landscape of the Sunshine Coast along the way before heading to the Glass House Mountains where you will start your exploration of the Sunshine Coast’s distinctive mountain peaks. You will climb and trek six mountains in 24 hours. It sounds gruelling, but it’s not, though you do need a good level of fitness. You will experience some of the Sunshine Coast’s most spectacular vistas, see some of the region’s historic villages, discover the Sunshine Coast’s rich Indigenous and European history, and you might even have the opportunity of spending a night in a converted chapel or railway carriage at the Glass House Mountains Eco Lodge.
